TELOK KURAU STUDIOS HISTORY

catalogue TJS SAW_edited.jpg

Founded as the first pilot arts housing scheme by the National Arts Council with the assistance of the first Management Committee chaired by Mr Tan Swie Hian in 1997, the Telok Kurau Studios (TKS) is the longest standing visual artist enclave in the history of Singapore culture. A cluster of studios like those Montmarte and Montparnasse in Paris, the TKS houses the greatest number of Singapore Cultural Medallion recipents and Young Artist Award winners and some of the most promising young creators. Like a hundred flowers blooming in a garden, they have established a brand name for the Telok Kurau Studios in the artistic community of the city-state.
